TEDFEST in OZ shut down….
Festival goers attended the event to enjoy a weekend of live music, shows and games. On Friday evening, Parkes Police attended the venue after they received a large number of noise complaints made by the public. At 11.30pm the Lachlan LAC Licensing Police attended the venue and found alleged breaches of licensing laws with regard to intoxication. The licensee subsequently closed the licensed venue. The festival was moved to the campsite which was no more than 200m away and was moved into town for the following nights. The Parkes Show Society locked the buildings within the showgrounds on Saturday, where the event had taken a turn for the worst. “It’s really turned into a joke,” one festival goer from Melbourne, Grainne Noone said. “We paid $250 for all events all weekend and we’ve travelled 10 hours to all this. “There has been no trouble or aggression – it’s all been in good humour,” she said. 80 per cent of visitors headed home the Sunday morning with only 30 people remaining. Despite setbacks, the festival was able to run its course and visitors made the most out of what they could. Though disappointed, patrons admitted the locals had been great. Some however have no desire to attend another Tedfest in Australia. Feeling a little unfairly treated, one organiser said they will not be holding the festival in Parkes again.
